Methodologies, practices for historical – thematic parks

Methodologies, practices for historical – thematic parks

The Work Package 4 aims at providing knowledge about the praxis of thematic parks. Historical, archaeological, ecological parks, developed, especially in the last decade, all over the world, constitute a group of parks that could be classified under the banner of “geo-cultural” parks. The rationale of their activities underlies within a common framework and their prevailing objectives are homogeneous; primarily, to protect and preserve natural and cultural heritage and, of equal significance, to present all the identified landmarks to the wide public. Unambiguously, each thematic park applies distinct approaches pertaining to the needs and expectations of each country or even related to diverse categories of visitors

Principal target of work package 4 activities’ is the research regarding the strategies of existing thematic parks and their classification depending on diverse perspectives. The dissemination of the study’s results and the plurality of experiences are essential to the setting of a “park model” and to common working methodologies. Under these circumstances, both educational institutions and organisations of local development could exploit the project’s implementation.

The Work Package 4 specifically aspires to the design of a historical park that will act as a prototype to be followed by the project partners. Aspects concerning the diffusion of knowledge, the educational and training activities, the exchange of ideas on accademic level and the exchange of cultural initiatives are fulfilled through the publication of a CD- Rom, scientific meetings and festivals and e-learning modules available via internet.
