Via Flaminia - Caesar's Waters - Acquasparta
|
Holy waters
As we continue, we encounter Acquasparta, in antiquity Acquas Partas, which was most likely established as a rest stop for Roman troops to refresh themselves from the burdens of war as it was the crossroads for the Amerino and Furapane springs, which also happen to serve as natural baths. The springs and baths of Amerino were made even, more famous in the Middle Ages by St. Francis of Assisi, who blessed them and spoke of their therapeutic properties. Today, the water source is dedicated to the “poverello” (little poor man) from Assisi.
