The Computer Technology Institute (CTI) was
founded in 1985 as a non-profit organization (Presidential Decree 9/1985) under
the superintendence of the General
Secretariat of Research and Technology, with its head offices in Patras.
Today, CTI operates as an Academic Research Institution, with administrative
and financial independence, in association with the Computer Engineering and
Informatics Department of the University of Patras and is supervised by the
Ministry of National Education
and Religious Affairs, according to the 2083/92 Law. CTI's objectives, are defined as follows:
- The conduct of basic and applied research in computer software
and hardware technology.
- The design and development of products as well as the support
of activities related to computer software and hardware technology
pertaining to production, education, services, science and technique.
- The support of Greece's Informatics Industry.
- The development of know-how and technology transfer.
As part of CTI, the Telematics Center of Western Greece, Epirus and Ionian Islands
“WestGate” is a section that produces and provides Solutions and Services
for Telematics issues, which are implemented with the use of Internet.
The creation of this section is the
result from the collaboration within the framework of the European Union
Programm named “INTERREG II – A, Greece
- Italy”, of the following institutes, which ensure to WestGate a strong
know-how:
·
CTI.
·
University of Ioannina.
·
PaSTIS (Parco Scientifico Tecnologico Jonico Salentino).
·
Tecnopolis CSATA Novus Ortus.
Cti’s
WestGate dept is activating, mainly, in the area of
telematic´s technologies. In particular, it provides solutions with the use of
Internet and of World Wide Web. WestGate’s solutions approach Internet, not
only as a mean of communication, but also as the main area in which a company
is able to perform a variety of operations, such as advertising, and selling
dealings with suppliers.
Moreover, WestGate offers the ¨classical¨
solutions of office automation in companies and organizations. This follows the
concept of the initial idea that WestGate will promote the increased use of the
advanced technologies in the covered areas of Greece and South Italy. It views
this movement as a contribution to the maturation of the local market, as well
as for the preparation of this market segment, during the next years, to accept
the use of the advanced technologies.
CTI (via WestGate dept) collaborates
strongly with two scientific and technological parks with the same
characteristics, in Southern Italy (region of Puglia). These two collaborations
in Southern Italy, have been with PaSTIS (Parco Scientifico
Tecnologico Jonico Salentino), and with Tecnopolis CSATA Novus Ortus
