The region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (EMTh) is situated at the east-northern borders of Greece. Consists of the prefectures of Evros, Rodopi, Xanthi, Drama and Kavala. It is a dynamic Region which concentrates most of the new industrial investment of Greece.

Among its experience in regional development and innovation, we can mention:

INTERREG 2C - Programme MEDOC (Mediterranee Occidentale): responsible region for the implementation of the programme in Greece. Under MEDOC Programme the region of EMTh has supervised two projects and implemented one more as follows:

MEDITERRANEAN ROMAN ROADS: (www.viaeromanae.org) this program aimed at promoting the modern development of 15 regions of Europe from France (Leader), Italy, Spain, Greece. Region EMTh was the national coordinator of the project in Greece among 4 regions (EMTh, Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia and Ipiros Region) which are crossed by the ancient Roman Road EGNATIA, in which a modern highway in the frame of transeuropean transport networks

PAN Project: the region EMTh supervised the Local Development of Evros Perfecture for the protection and promotion of biotops (eco-tourism)

RESTAURO Project: under supervision of region EMTh this project aimed to develop the promotion and of historical centers of cities

INTERREG 3A 2002-2006 program Greece – Bulgaria: Region EMTh was the programme Leader in this program, in which also Region of Central Macedonia participated from Greece
