ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PARK OF ORVIETO AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

The municipalities of Orvieto and its surroundings (including Orvieto, Baschi, Castel Viscardo, Castel Giorgio, San Venanzo, Parrano, Allerona, Porano, Montecchio, Montegabbione together with the Province of Terni and the Mountain Community of Peglia and Selva di Meana) have signed an agreement for the establishment of the Archaeological and Environmental Park of Orvieto and its surroundings. These are mainly places of extraordinary archaeological, environmental and landscape interest.

This initiative arose from the need to safeguard the huge collective heritage present throughout the Orvieto territory, trying to favour the integration between men and environment also through the protection of anthropological and architectural values, and to favour the enhancement of human resources and the promotion of environment, hence allowing a higher economic development. Presently, the park is still in a design phase and the excavation works are under way. Nevertheless, it is possible to visit some of its parts such as the following complexes: The Etruscan Necropolis of CROCEFISSO DEL TUFO and the Sanctuary of CANNICELLA in Orvieto.
